Title: Artful Journaling while Traveling
Description:
The National Trails Day edition of Selu Scenery will be led by local sketch and watercolor artist Matt “Sharpie” Gentry.
Matt will focus on making art while traveling with a special emphasis on packing light and finding ways to fit creating artwork into a busy trip itinerary. Matt will share some of his travel journaling pages and the supplies he used to produce them followed by a walk on the Selu Conservancy where participants are invited to sketch or paint along.
Materials list:
Pack light-sketch book, sketching pencils, simply watercolor options that you can carry easily. you can find small sketchbooks, pencils and other travel, pack light supplies at New River Art and Fiber in Blacksburg, Va
Bio:
Matt “Sharpie” Gentry is a Blacksburg native and retired photojournalist with the Roanoke Times. In 2015 he completed a three decades long section hike of the Appalachian Trail during which he earned the trail name “Sharpie” due to his sketching and journaling along the trail in a 6x9 inch sketchbook with removable pages.
