The 2019 conference, “Redrawing Boundaries,” invites individual and group papers, panels and poster presentations that challenge existing social boundaries and explore new borders by connecting research and theory to Communication practice. How can we create new boundaries that include greater inclusivity, participation, and engagement? In what ways can we collaborate to broaden the mindset of existing boundaries? In this time of political and social upheaval, how can we, as practitioners, encourage and motivate others to engage in positive social change? We look forward to the conversations, hearing the research presented, and engaging with each other as we redefine our own boundaries.
Design thinking is a human-centered creative problem solving process that results in innovative solutions. Research, empathy, ideation, and prototyping are key concepts at the heart of the design thinking process that uncover ways of improving upon any service, product or need.
When designing this training opportunity, Radford University faculty and staff identified needs for continuing education and training for Substance Use Disorder Providers. We polled clinicians in the field regarding what they perceived as training needs for staff who work with individuals diagnosed with Substance Use Disorders. We also discovered that it would be more cost effective if trainings were offered close to clinicians' home bases and in a format that allows many people to take advantage of without having added travel expenses.
