Overview of the Experience 

Join Roanoke Parks and Recreation for a progressive lunch tour of the Roanoke River Greenway. The Roanoke region is home to over 400 miles of paved and natural surface trails and counting. The greenway provides not only connections to exercise, nature, neighbors and employment but also entertainment and local food! 

We’ll start our journey at a local bike shop along the greenway and progress through appetizers and entrees and end the afternoon with a sweet treat as we get a feel for the greenway and river corridor and its neighborhood connections! 

Bring your bike or rent one at our starting location. All food is included in the price; 

beverages are available for purchase individually at each stop. Our instructors will provide instruction and guidance on greenway etiquette and riding on neighborhood roads. Expect to ride about five mostly flat miles in total.

  • Recognize the economic value the greenway brings through firsthand experience 
  • Practice safe and respectful riding on shared-use greenways 
  • Gain confidence riding on greenways and local neighborhood streets 
  • Explore local restaurants and businesses by bike 
  • Learn how to incorporate cycling into everyday transportation and recreation 

Participants Can Expect: 

  • Ride 5 miles mostly utilizing the greenway with some neighborhood connections included 
  • Less than 200 ft elevation gain and loss over the route 
  • Rental bikes available including E-bikes  - indicate on your registration 
  • Participants will start and finish at the same location 
  • Dietary accommodations available - indicate on your registration
