Higher Ground-Appalachian Experience

Higher Ground is a 5-day intensive outdoor orientation program designed to break down barriers and help dissipate the anxiety of students entering college for the first time. The Appalachian Experience will focus on grounded outdoor adventures that focus on showcasing the outdoor resources readily available to incoming students that are on their doorstep. The activities are going to range from hiking, biking, tubing, teambuilding, and the challenge course.


Dates: August 18-22, 2025

Details about an equipment/packing list, arrival, and move-in will be provided closer to the start day.

Higher Ground is a drug, alcohol, weapons, and tobacco-free/e-cigs/vape-free environments. We also do not allow cell phones or personal MP3 devices. Generally, you should not bring anything not included on the Equipment / Packing List. Any students in violation of these rules may be removed from the program with no refund, and be subject to University sanctions.

Waitlist available—if all spots are taken, the student can enroll in the "back in stock" subscription. Once enrolled, the student will be notified if additional spots become available.
