Annual Highland Summer Conference will be held at Radford University, July 14-18, 2025
Five Days of writing, reading and music. The writing workshop features guest Robert Gipe, an award-winning Appalachian novelist whose work is reshaping the way people think about Appalachia today. He won the 2015 Weatherford Award for outstanding novel for Trampoline, a novel that blends his unique visual style with a funny, heartbreaking story. The second and third novels, Weedeater and Pop, are also available from Ohio University Press. In 2021, the trilogy won the Judy Gaines Young Book Award. From 1997 to 2018, Gipe directed the Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College Appalachian Program in Harlan. Gipe is founding producer of the Higher Ground community performance series, served as script consultant for the Hulu series Dopesick, and was a producer on the feature film The Evening Hour. Conference Registration: $250 general, $200 for students and seniors
Location: Radford University and Selu Conservancy (housing available)
